چکیده

23 Since usual processes involve water as absorbent, they appear not always really efficient for the treatment of 24 hydrophobic VOC. Recently, absorption and biodegradation coupling in a two-phase partitioning bioreactor (TPPB) 25 proved to be a promising technology for hydrophobic compound treatment. The choice of the organic phase, the non26 aqueous phase liquid (NAPL) is based on various parameters involved in both steps of the process, hydrophobic VOC 27 absorption in a gas-liquid contactor, and biodegradation in the TPPB. VOC solubility and diffusivity in the selected 28 NAPL, as well as NAPL viscosity, seems to be the main parameters during the absorption step, while biocompatibility, 29 namely the absence of toxic effect of the NAPL towards microorganisms, non-biodegradability and VOC partition 30 coefficient between NAPL and water were revealed as the key factors during the biodegradation step. The screening 31 of the various NAPL available in the literature highlighted two families of compounds matching the required 32 conditions for the proposed integrated process, silicone oils and ionic liquids. 33

Lamella Clarification and Biofiltration

9 This study investigates the occurrence of all priority substances (n = 41) listed in the 10 Water Framework Directive and additional substances (n = 47) in raw sewage, as well as the 11 removal performance of lamella clarification and biofiltration techniques. Once the efficiency 12 of both types of techniques has been assessed for typical wastewater parameters, the 13 differences in each tec...

Removal of VOCs from Contaminated Groundwater and Soils by Pervaporation LEAD AGENCY: Environmental Protection Agency

PROBLEM STATEMENT: Petroleum hydrocarbons, and other volatile organic compounds (VOCs), which are found to contaminate groundwater and soils, are usually treated by pump-and-treat methods, which are very time-consuming, expensive, and not very effective. We are proposing the use of pervaporation for effectively removing these hydrocarbons and VOCs from contaminated soil and groundwater (with or...

Removal of polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons and phenols from coking wastewater by simultaneously synthesized organobentonite in a one-step process.

The optimal condition for a one-step process removing organic compounds from coking wastewater by simultaneously synthesized organobentonite as a pretreatment was investigated. Results showed that sorption of organic compounds by organobentonite was positively correlated to the cation surfactant exchange on the bentonite and the octanol-water partition coefficient (Kow) of the solutes. With 0.7...

Reduction of VOC emissions by a membrane-based gas absorption process.

A membrane-based gas absorption (MGA) process was evaluated for the removal of volatile organic compounds (VOCs) based on C6H6/N2 mixture. The absorption of C6H6 from a C6H6/N2 mixture was investigated using a hydrophobic polypropylene hollow fiber membrane contactor and the aqueous solution of N-formyl morpholine (NFM) as absorbent. The effects of various factors on the overall mass transfer c...
